First- and Second-Order Necessary Conditions Via Exact Penalty Functions

چکیده
In this paper we study firstand second-order necessary conditions for nonlinear programming problems from the viewpoint of exact penalty functions. By applying the variational description of regular subgradients, we first establish necessary and sufficient conditions for a penalty term to be of KKT-type by using the regular subdifferential of the penalty term. In terms of the kernel of the subderivative of the penalty term, we also present sufficient conditions for a penalty term to be of KKT-type. We then derive a second-order necessary condition by assuming a second-order constraint qualification which requires that the second-order linearized tangent set is included in the closed convex hull of the kernel of the parabolic subderivative of the penalty term. In particular, for an l2/3 penalty term, by assuming the nonpositiveness of a sum of a second-order derivative and a third-order derivative of the original data and applying a third-order Taylor expansion, we obtain the second-order necessary condition.

Optimality Conditions for Semi-infinite and Generalized Semi-infinite Programs via lp Exact Penalty Functions
In this paper, we will study optimality conditions of semi-infinite programs and generalized semi-infinite programs, for which the gradient objective function when evaluated at any feasible direction for the linearized constraint set is non-negative. We consider three types of penalty functions for semi-infinite program and investigate the relationship among the exactness of these penalty funct...
متن کاملPartial second-order subdifferentials of -prox-regular functions
Although prox-regular functions in general are nonconvex, they possess properties that one would expect to find in convex or lowerC2 functions. The class of prox-regular functions covers all convex functions, lower C2 functions and strongly amenable functions. At first, these functions have been identified in finite dimension using proximal subdifferential. Then, the definition of prox-regula...
متن کاملConvergence to Second Order Stationary Points in Inequality Constrained Optimization
We propose a new algorithm for the nonlinear inequality constrained minimization problem, and prove that it generates a sequence converging to points satisfying the KKT second order necessary conditions for optimality. The algorithm is a line search algorithm using directions of negative curvature and it can be viewed as a non trivial extension of corresponding known techniques from unconstrain...
متن کاملMinimizing a General Penalty Function on a Single Machine via Developing Approximation Algorithms and FPTASs
This paper addresses the Tardy/Lost penalty minimization on a single machine. According to this penalty criterion, if the tardiness of a job exceeds a predefined value, the job will be lost and penalized by a fixed value. Besides its application in real world problems, Tardy/Lost measure is a general form for popular objective functions like weighted tardiness, late work and tardiness with reje...
متن کاملA second-order differentiable smoothing approximation lower order exact penalty function
In this paper, we give a smoothing approximation to the lower order exact penalty functions for inequality-constrained optimization problems. Error estimations are obtained among the optimal objective function values of the smoothed penalty problem, of the nonsmooth penalty problem and of the original optimization problem. An algorithm based on the smoothed penalty function is presented, which ...
